Can I sell a relative’s car who passed away?

Can I sell a relative’s car who passed away?

• Updated

Yes, you can. Just complete a free car valuation in your name with your personal details, making sure that you have a photo ID to match and a proof of address. This can be a driving licence, bank statement or utility bill dated within the last 3 months.

Once you’ve booked your handover date, please contact us on 020 3901 3488 and let us know you’re selling a car on behalf of a relative who’s passed away. We’ll send a link to your email address with a request for two documents:

  • A clear picture of the car’s V5C in your relative’s name.

  • A certified copy of the death certificate - please send one picture from the front and another holding it up to a window clearly showing the watermarks. We’re unable to accept a ‘fact of death’ certificate.

You’ll also need to fill out and digitally sign a declaration. Please have your personal details and the information on the V5C for the car to hand.

Once you’ve sent this through, you’ll receive a notification from our Customer Support team within 24 hours. As long as everything has been accepted, there’s nothing more you need to do.
